Mogens Koch easy chair
This very rare wingback easy chair with matching stool was designed by Mogens Koch and produced by master cabinetmaker Rud Rasmussen in Denmark, 1936. The piece stands as a hallmark of Danish cabinetmaking, uniting precision craftsmanship with timeless architectural proportion.
The chair is constructed in solid mahogany, its structure characterized by clear, rectilinear lines and fine joinery typical of Rud Rasmussen’s meticulous production. The tall wingback form conveys both gravitas and comfort, designed to support the sitter’s posture naturally. The slightly flared rear legs and gently curved armrests give balance and poise to the overall silhouette.
The seat and back retain their original hand-stitched brown leather upholstery, now beautifully aged with a deep, natural patina. The leather is framed by a row of large, hand-applied decorative nails that emphasize the handcrafted quality and lend the piece a classical yet robust appearance. The matching stool mirrors the same material expression and joinery, forming a cohesive sculptural ensemble.
Mogens Koch’s design philosophy—rooted in functional clarity, proportion, and enduring materials—is fully expressed here. The chair’s form, while traditional in outline, reflects the modern Danish commitment to honest construction and human comfort. Produced by Rud Rasmussen, one of Denmark’s most revered cabinetmakers, this piece represents the highest echelon of Scandinavian craftsmanship.
The set remains in excellent vintage condition, showing only minor signs of wear consistent with careful use and displaying a warm, even patina.
