Paavo Tynell wall lamps
Rare wall lamps, model 2351, was designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Idman in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp features a conical shade crafted from white lacquered metal, distinguished by a unique cut-out along its lower edge. It is mounted on a cylindrical base finished in matching white lacquered metal, connected via a brass swivel arm that allows for adjustable positioning.
Paavo Tynell was a pioneering Finnish designer celebrated for his elegant and functional lighting designs. His work is characterized by a harmonious blend of industrial materials and sculptural forms, which contributed significantly to Finland’s reputation for high-quality lighting during the mid-century modern era. Tynell frequently collaborated with Idman, a leading Finnish lighting manufacturer known for its craftsmanship and innovative technical solutions combined with refined aesthetics.
The design of the lamp exemplifies Scandinavian modernism, prioritizing simplicity, practical function, and the subtle interplay of light and material. The conical shade directs light downward while the cut-out detail creates a soft ambient glow, enhancing the atmosphere of any space. The warm brass elements contrast with the crisp white lacquer finish, adding visual interest and sophistication.
They’re preserved in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor wear consistent with its age and use. Dimensions measure approximately 17 cm in width, 31 cm in depth, and 21 cm in height (6.7 x 12.2 x 8.3 inches).
