Paavo Tynell wall lamps
This is a very rare set of four wall lamps, model 10330, designed by the celebrated Finnish designer Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy in Finland during the 1950s. These lamps represent the pinnacle of Scandinavian mid-century lighting design, reflecting Tynell’s characteristic combination of elegance, craftsmanship, and functionality.
The lamps are constructed entirely from brass, featuring a warm patinated surface that has developed a rich character over time. The design consists of folded brass sheets, forming an angular body with an architectural silhouette. The surface is perforated with a distinctive star-shaped pattern, allowing soft, diffused light to escape through the openings, creating a delicate interplay of light and shadow. Additionally, a series of vertical perforations near the top edge enhances the visual lightness of the form. The brass surfaces display a nuanced patina consistent with age, contributing to the authenticity and visual warmth of the lamps.
Each lamp measures 21.5 cm in width, 15 cm in depth, and 50 cm in height (8.5 x 5.9 x 19.7 inches). All four lamps are stamped with the Taito Oy mark, verifying their provenance and authenticity. They are presented in excellent condition, having been well-preserved, with only minor signs of wear consistent with their age and use.
