Room dividers
This rare pair of folding screens or room dividers was produced in the 1950s by Alberts in Tibro, Sweden. Each screen is constructed from pine and features panels made of intricately woven veneer strips arranged in a diagonal basketweave pattern. The pine exhibits a light honey-colored tone with clear, consistent grain, and the woven veneer adds both visual rhythm and textural depth to the surface.
The frames are joined using functional suede cord hinges, looped and bound at three horizontal points per panel to enable flexible folding while maintaining a handcrafted appearance. The dark brown suede cords provide a subtle contrast against the lighter pine, serving both structural and decorative purposes. Each screen is freestanding, composed of three flat panels that taper slightly toward the top, lending a refined verticality to the overall design.
Alberts, based in Tibro, was a Swedish furniture manufacturer recognized for high-quality wood craftsmanship and mid-century interior furnishings that balance function and decoration. The use of pine and natural materials like suede reflects the Scandinavian ethos of simple, durable, and environmentally conscious design prevalent in the post-war era.
The pair remains in very good vintage condition, showing minimal signs of age and use. The pine retains its natural finish and warm tone, while the suede connectors are intact and structurally sound. Each divider measures 120 cm wide, 2 cm deep, and 158 cm high, approximately 47.2 inches wide, 0.8 inches deep, and 62.2 inches high.
