Information
An exceptionally rare sofa designed by Tor Wolfenstein and produced by AB Robert Ditzinger in Sweden during the 1940s. A distinctive example of Swedish Modern design, the sofa combines an expressive, sculptural silhouette with traditional upholstery techniques and refined craftsmanship.

The design is characterized by its sweeping, organically curved backrest, which rises into generously rounded arms at either end and gently dips toward the center. The continuous, enveloping form creates an elegant and inviting profile, while the deeply button-tufted interior introduces a rich sense of texture and depth.

Upholstered in its original golden ochre velvet, the sofa retains a beautiful warmth and softness that complement its sculptural proportions. The velvet displays subtle variations in tone and a natural patina developed over decades of use, adding character and authenticity to the piece. Carefully arranged button tufting, vertical pleating, and decorative braided piping emphasize the quality and complexity of the upholstery.

The generously proportioned seat follows a gently curved outline, echoing the flowing shape of the backrest. A continuous upholstered base provides visual balance, while the short, tapered elm legs introduce a light architectural contrast to the sofa’s voluminous form.

The fully upholstered back follows the same graceful curvature, allowing the sofa to be positioned freely within a room and appreciated from all sides.

With its dramatic silhouette, luxurious original upholstery, and carefully balanced proportions, this sofa reflects the more expressive and decorative side of Swedish furniture design during the 1940s. Its combination of sculptural elegance, comfort, and exceptional detailing makes it a particularly distinctive example of the period.

The sofa remains in good vintage condition, retaining its original velvet upholstery with signs of age, use, and a beautiful natural patina consistent with its history.
