Information

This rare ceiling lamp, model UFO, was designed by Uno & Östen Kristiansson and produced by Luxus in Vittsjö, Sweden, during the 1950s. A quintessential example of mid-century Scandinavian modern design, the lamp stands out for its harmonious combination of materials and its sleek, futuristic form that draws inspiration from the emerging space-age aesthetics of the period.

The main body of the lamp is made of opaline glass, which softly diffuses light and enhances the lamp’s elegant, sculptural silhouette. Its wide, disc-like shape resembles a flying saucer, evoking a sense of movement and modernity. The central part of the glass shade slightly tapers downward, contributing to a subtle dynamic effect while ensuring even light distribution throughout the room.

Adding to its refined design, the lamp features a rosewood ring at the top, with a series of evenly spaced perforations. This practical and decorative detail allows for ventilation of heat while highlighting the lamp’s architectural presence. The warm tones of the rosewood provide a beautiful contrast to the cool, translucent opaline glass, reflecting the Scandinavian design ethos of balancing modern materials with natural elements.

With a diameter of 50 cm (19.7 inches) and a height of 60 cm (23.6 inches), the UFO ceiling lamp makes a bold statement while maintaining the elegance and simplicity that define mid-century Scandinavian lighting design. Its combination of clean lines, functional design, and aesthetic warmth makes it a timeless piece for any interior.
