Information

This very rare floor lamp, model 539, was designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp combines solid teak and brass in a design that reflects the clean lines and functional elegance characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian modernism. Its adjustable features emphasize practicality while maintaining refined aesthetics.

The lamp’s structure features a teak column supporting a gracefully curved brass arm, which enables flexible positioning of the light source. Height adjustment is facilitated by a brass locking mechanism seamlessly integrated into the wooden stem, offering ease of use and precise control. The base is crafted from brass, providing stability while complementing the overall slender and understated form. The original conical lampshade is designed to direct light effectively, making the lamp suitable for tasks such as reading or accent lighting.

Hans Bergström was a prominent Swedish lighting designer and a co-founder of Ateljé Lyktan, a company known for its commitment to craftsmanship and innovative lighting solutions. Bergström’s work is distinguished by a thoughtful balance between function and sculptural form, qualities that have contributed to the lasting appeal of his designs within Scandinavian modernism.

The lamp is preserved in well-maintained vintage condition. The brass surfaces have developed an appealing patina that adds depth to the design, while the teak has acquired a warm, rich tone that highlights the natural grain of the wood. The lampshade remains intact and in good condition, maintaining the lamp’s original character and purpose.

Measuring 22 cm in width and 70 cm in depth, the lamp’s height is adjustable between 115 and 145 cm (8.7 x 27.6 inches, adjustable from 45.3 to 57.1 inches), allowing it to serve as a versatile lighting fixture with both functional and decorative qualities.
