Information

This rare and early wall lamp, model V-80, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. It is an excellent example of Jakobsson’s refined approach to lighting design, where simplicity of form and the interplay of light and material are central elements.

The lamp is constructed from brass and features a cylindrical wall-mounted arm that supports a clear spherical glass shade. The transparent globe reveals the perforated brass cylinder inside, which serves as both a housing for the bulb and a subtle diffuser, softening the emitted light. This combination of materials creates a balanced contrast between the warm, patinated brass and the delicate clarity of the glass, highlighting Jakobsson’s sensitivity to light diffusion and atmosphere. The pared-down, geometric composition reflects the core principles of Scandinavian mid-century modern design—functional, understated, and timeless.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of the leading figures in post-war Scandinavian lighting design. After training as a cabinetmaker and working under designers such as Carl Malmsten and Werner West, he established his own company in Markaryd in 1951. His designs are renowned for their mastery of light, often prioritizing ambiance and subtlety over direct illumination. The V-80 is a prime example of his early work, demonstrating the meticulous attention to proportion, materiality, and light quality that defined his career.

This piece remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of wear and patina consistent with age and use. Its sculptural presence, combined with its historical and design significance, makes it a notable example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting. Four pieces available.

Dimensions are 20 cm wide, 26 cm deep, and 35 cm high (7.9 x 10.2 x 13.8 in)
