Hans-Agne Jakobsson wall lamps
These unique wall lamps, model C-2446, were designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The construction combines a brass mounting structure with layered semicircular acrylic shades in graduated tones of blue and turquoise. The lamp can be installed either with or without the accompanying circular mirrored glass plate, which functions as an additional reflector and creates a doubling effect when illuminated.
The lamp’s design is characteristic of Jakobsson’s experimental approach to light diffusion. The overlapping acrylic elements soften the emitted light, producing a graded halo when in use, while the brass housing introduces a geometric contrast to the curved shades. When used with the mirrored disc, the composition gains greater depth as both the bulb and the shades are visually multiplied. The surfaces display minimal wear consistent with careful use and preservation.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was one of Sweden’s most influential lighting designers of the mid twentieth century, known for his atmospheric approach and his exploration of material translucency. This model, sourced from a hotel interior in Sweden, reflects his interest in sculptural lighting that interacts with its environment and adapts to various mounting configurations.
The lamp measures 47 × 14 × 31.5 cm, corresponding to approximately 18.5 × 5.5 × 12.4 inches.
The mirror has a diameter of 50 cm, corresponding to approximately 19.7 inches.
