Hans-Agne Jakobsson table lamp
The rare table lamp model B-204/31 Carolin was designed in 1963 by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden. It features a cylindrical brass stem that flares at the base and supports an original dome-shaped leather lampshade. The shade is crafted from natural tan leather panels, stitched together along vertical seams, with perforations along the inner edges that contribute to a distinctive handcrafted character. The dome form provides a soft diffusion of light while highlighting the material’s texture.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson, a Swedish lighting designer active from the mid-20th century, was known for his innovative use of materials, including wood, metal, glass, and leather, to create lighting pieces that balanced functionality with warmth. His designs often explored how materials and surfaces influenced light diffusion, resulting in timeless works now considered classics of Scandinavian modernism.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of usage and a natural patina to the brass consistent with its age. The leather shade retains its warm coloration and supple texture, with subtle wear that speaks to its authenticity and decades of careful use.
