Information

This set of six dining chairs, model 3237, designed by Børge Mogensen, exemplifies the designer’s enduring dedication to functional elegance and honest materials. The chairs feature a solid oak frame with a natural matte finish, showcasing the subtle texture and warm tones of the wood. The structure is composed of cylindrical legs and stretchers, providing both visual lightness and excellent stability. The seat and backrest are crafted from full-grain leather in a rich cognac brown, which has developed a deep patina over time, further enhancing the character of each piece.

The chairs exhibit a sculptural silhouette with softly curved leather panels that are tensioned across the frame. The backrests are secured with visible belts and brass buckles, allowing for slight adjustability and contributing to the handcrafted aesthetic. The seat panels are suspended with leather straps beneath, a design choice that offers both flexibility and comfort. Some of these straps have been sensitively replaced, maintaining both the functionality and visual integrity of the set.

Børge Mogensen, a leading figure in Danish modern design, was known for his pragmatic and human-centered approach to furniture. His work often combined traditional craftsmanship with innovative solutions, producing designs that were intended for everyday use while standing the test of time. The hunting chair series, including this model, was originally inspired by rustic Spanish furniture and Mogensen’s desire to create robust pieces for informal settings.

These chairs were manufactured by Fredericia Stolefabrik, the Danish company that became closely associated with Mogensen’s oeuvre. Established in 1911, Fredericia gained renown for its collaboration with Mogensen from the late 1950s onward, producing a wide range of his now-iconic designs. The company’s expertise in woodworking and upholstery is evident in the precise joinery and supple leatherwork seen here.

This set is presented in excellent vintage condition, with beautifully aged leather and a well-preserved oak structure. The replacement of certain support straps has been executed with care, ensuring full stability and useability.

Dimensions per chair are 56 cm wide, 52 cm deep, and 80 cm high. Seat height is 43 cm. In inches, this corresponds to approximately 22.05 inches wide, 20.47 inches deep, and 31.50 inches high, with a seat height of 16.93 inches.
