Harald Notini floor lamp
This floor lamp, model 15250, was designed by Harald Notini and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden during the 1940s. The lamp features a tall, straight brass column supporting an uplight shade composed of a brass lower section and an original glass upper diffuser. The glass shade is formed in a shallow, wide hemisphere with layered white rings along the rim, while the brass portion includes a circular arrangement of small perforations that contribute to a diffuse secondary glow when the lamp is lit. The pull-switch is executed in brass and integrated into the column with a slim cord and cylindrical weight.
The lamp is constructed in brass throughout the column and base, giving it a warm golden tone that has developed a varied and characteristic patina over time. The surface shows natural oxidation, small marks, and color shifts typical for aged brass, contributing to the historical character of the piece. The base is circular and weighted for stability. The glass shade retains its original finish and displays a soft matte surface consistent with the production techniques of the period.
Harald Notini worked extensively with lighting design in Sweden during the mid-20th century, often combining functional forms with refined decorative details. His work for Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik is known for its craftsmanship, elegant use of metals, and attention to light distribution. Böhlmarks, one of Sweden’s most established lighting manufacturers, produced a wide range of high-quality lamps from the early 1900s onward and was recognized for its expertise in brasswork. Model 15250 reflects the firm’s design language of the 1930s and 1940s, where classic materials and geometric forms were combined with subtle ornamentation such as perforated patterns and sculpted glass components.
The style of the lamp aligns with Swedish Grace and early mid-century modern tendencies, characterized by clean lines, restrained decoration, and an emphasis on material expression. When lit, the lamp produces an indirect upward illumination typical for uplighters, with additional decorative light escaping through the perforations in the brass dome.
The lamp remains in good condition with signs of use and patina consistent with age.
