Table lamp
This rare desk or table lamp was produced by AB E. Hansson & Co in Malmö, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp is crafted from solid brass and features a conical shade with perforated detailing near the top, designed to aid heat dissipation. Over time, the brass has developed a natural patina, enhancing the lamp’s depth and vintage character. The shade is mounted on an adjustable brass arm, enabling directional lighting and making the lamp well suited for task-oriented use.
The lower section of the arm is wrapped in braided leather, providing both a tactile contrast to the brass and an ergonomic grip. The circular, weighted base ensures stability while maintaining a streamlined silhouette. A small rotary switch is integrated near the shade for convenient operation.
Produced during the mid-century Scandinavian modernist era, the lamp reflects the period’s emphasis on simplicity, functionality, and quality materials. Although AB E. Hansson & Co was a lesser-known Swedish lighting manufacturer, its work aligns with the craftsmanship and design sensibilities of the time, focusing on practicality paired with refined aesthetics.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition, with a well-preserved leather grip and a natural patina on the brass components. Its dimensions are 15 cm wide, 33 cm deep, and 50 cm high (5.9 x 13 x 19.7 inches).
