Hans-Agne Jakobsson wall lamp
This wall lamp, model V-149/2, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp is constructed in brass, a material frequently used by Jakobsson for its reflective qualities and its ability to develop a characteristic surface patina. The design is defined by two cylindrical brass lampholders supporting spherical glass globes, which diffuse the light softly and evenly across the surrounding surface.
The structure consists of a compact wall-mounted base from which two angled brass arms extend, creating a symmetrical arrangement. The tinted globes contribute to a warm atmospheric light, characteristic of Jakobsson’s lighting philosophy, which focused on glare-free illumination and the creation of intimate spatial atmospheres. The brass surfaces show signs of age and usage, including oxidation spots and wear concentrated around the lampholders and wall plate, consistent with the lamp’s vintage condition.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson, trained as an interior architect and later a prolific lighting designer, built his workshop into one of Sweden’s most recognised lighting manufacturers of the mid-twentieth century. His work is noted for its balance between functional light output and sculptural form, with many pieces utilising simple geometric elements combined in thoughtful arrangements. The present model demonstrates his characteristic approach, emphasising both clarity of form and atmospheric lighting.
This example remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of use that reflect its age. The globes retain uniform coloration, and the brass shows a naturally aged surface with areas of patination and wear.
