Information

This is a rare nesting table set, model 33, designed by Kai Kristiansen and produced by Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1965. The set consists of three tables in solid oak with a warm golden tone, showing a straight, clean grain pattern typical of Scandinavian oak furniture. Each table is a simple square form supported by open rectangular frames, and the set is designed to stack compactly into a cube when not in use, highlighting its functional and space-saving nature.

Kai Kristiansen was one of Denmark’s notable mid-century designers, celebrated for his ability to combine architectural clarity with a certain warmth and playfulness in his furniture. Model 33 reflects Kristiansen’s focus on practical, modular design suitable for modern living spaces of the 1960s. The tables are lightweight yet sturdy and can be easily moved and arranged as side tables, serving tables, or occasional tables as needed.

The set remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age, including small surface marks and a soft patina to the oak that enhances its character. The craftsmanship is precise, with well-executed joinery and attention to detail that meet the standards of the Danish Furnituremakers’ Control, as marked beneath.

The nesting table measures 40 cm wide, 43 cm deep, and 41.5 cm high (approximately 15.7 x 16.9 x 16.3 inches). Together, they form a versatile and functional design ensemble, representative of Danish mid-century modernism’s emphasis on both beauty and utility.
