Information

This large set of wall lamps was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, in the 1960s. The lamps feature a distinctive composition of chromed steel and opaline glass, reflecting Jakobsson’s characteristic focus on soft, diffused light and sculptural yet functional forms. The design consists of a round opaline glass globe held in a circular chromed steel support ring, which is connected to a square wall-mounted backplate by a bent tubular arm. This combination of geometric elements gives the lamp a striking yet balanced appearance, making it suitable for both private and public interiors.

The chromed steel structure remains in excellent condition, with only minor patina that is consistent with age and use. The opaline glass shades are intact and evenly colored, providing a warm, ambient light when illuminated. This set is of particular historical interest due to its provenance: it originally came from the Sporthallen in Eskilstuna, Sweden, which adds cultural significance and a documented context to the pieces.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific lighting designers, known for his commitment to creating atmospheric light that softened interiors and created a sense of intimacy. Founding his company in Markaryd in 1951, he developed a vast range of lighting objects, from small table lamps to large chandeliers. His work often explored how different materials and shade constructions could control glare and create gentle illumination, a principle clearly expressed in these wall lamps.

These lamps are emblematic of mid-century Scandinavian design, combining functional simplicity with refined materials and craftsmanship. They work particularly well in series, as originally intended for public spaces, but can also serve as statement pieces in private homes, adding architectural rhythm and warm lighting.

Dimensions are 24 cm wide, 40 cm deep, and 36 cm high, corresponding to approximately 9.4 x 15.7 x 14.2 inches.
