Hans-Agne Jakobsson table lamp
This very rare table lamp, model B-99, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp is crafted entirely from brass and features a cylindrical shade composed of stacked, evenly spaced rings that create a louvered effect. This design diffuses light horizontally, producing a soft, ambient glow while effectively minimizing glare—a signature aspect of Jakobsson’s lighting philosophy.
The structure is supported by a slender brass stem mounted on a circular brass base that ensures stability. At the top, a small geometric handle adds a functional element, allowing for easy transport and adjustment. When illuminated, the lamp casts concentric reflections, highlighting the layered construction of the shade.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a renowned Swedish lighting designer known for his innovative techniques in light diffusion and creating atmospheric illumination. His work frequently incorporated brass, wood, and glass to generate warm and inviting light qualities. The B-99 model exemplifies his mastery of indirect lighting, combining both sculptural form and functional design.
The lamp is preserved in very good vintage condition, showing a natural patina on the brass surfaces. Minor signs of wear consistent with its age add to the authenticity and character of the piece.
The dimensions are 20 cm in diameter and 50 cm in height (7.9 x 19.7 inches).
