Information

This rare ceiling lamp, model 9068, designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy in Finland during the 1950s, is a striking example of functional yet decorative Scandinavian modern lighting. The lamp is a flush mount featuring a compact, architectural square form with softly rounded corners. Its body is crafted from brown lacquered metal punctuated with a dense, evenly spaced perforation pattern—an iconic motif in Tynell’s work that allows delicate ambient light to filter through.

The underside showcases a brass grid diffuser composed of intersecting horizontal and vertical fins, creating a louvered effect that diffuses and directs light downward softly and evenly. The lamp is crowned with a cylindrical brass canopy that projects upward, adding vertical interest to the otherwise flat profile.

Paavo Tynell, a seminal figure in Finnish design and co-founder of Taito Oy, was renowned for combining industrial materials with refined, poetic lighting effects. This model embodies those principles, blending decorative detail with practical illumination.

The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing minor wear on the lacquer and natural patina on the brass, with all original components intact and structurally sound.

Dimensions are 40 cm wide, 40 cm deep, and 25 cm high (approximately 15.7 x 15.7 x 9.8 inches).
