Anna-Lisa Thomson floor vase

This large ceramic floor vase, model “Paprika,” designed by Anna-Lisa Thomson and produced by Upsala Ekeby in Sweden during the 1950s, is a stunning example of mid-century Scandinavian ceramic design. The vase features an elongated, tapered form with a textured surface that combines both unglazed and glazed ceramic finishes. The upper portion of the vase is covered in a matte brown surface, while the lower section is adorned with vertically arranged relief decorations in the shape of elongated leaves, finished in an off-white glaze with fine black incised lines.

Anna-Lisa Thomson (1905–1952), a Swedish ceramicist known for her nature-inspired designs, created some of Upsala Ekeby’s most recognizable pieces during her time with the company from 1933 until her passing.
