Information

Ceramic vase designed by Anna-Lisa Thomson and produced by Upsala Ekeby in Sweden during the 1940s. The piece reflects Thomson’s refined approach to organic form and subtle surface articulation, characteristic of Swedish mid-century ceramics.

The vase is compact in scale with a softly rounded, almost bulbous body that tapers gently towards a short, slightly flared neck. The exterior is defined by evenly spaced vertical fluting, creating a rhythmic, undulating surface that gives the form both structure and softness. The sculptural quality is emphasized by the way the contours catch light, accentuating the depth of each rib.

The glaze is a milky white with delicate tonal variations, where faint lilac-grey hues settle into the recessed areas of the fluting. This creates a nuanced contrast between the raised and recessed surfaces, adding depth without interrupting the calm, monochrome appearance. The finish is smooth and slightly lustrous, typical of Upsala Ekeby’s refined glaze work of the period.

Dimensions: diameter 12.5 cm (4.9 inches), height 15.5 cm (6.1 inches).

In good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, including a small nick to the top rim.
