Esben Klint table lamps

This rare pair of table lamps, model 307, was designed by Esben Klint in 1948 and produced by Le Klint in Denmark. The model reflects Esben Klint’s architectural sensibility, inherited from his father Kaare Klint, combined with the craftsmanship and innovative lighting approach that defined Le Klint’s production during the mid-twentieth century.

The lamps feature brass bases and stems with clean cylindrical forms, executed with subtle detailing such as fine ridges and stepped sections that emphasize proportion and refinement. Each lamp is height adjustable, allowing for functional adaptability, a design trait that Klint often integrated into his work. The lamps are fitted with their original folded shades, characteristic of Le Klint’s production, where hand-pleated techniques created sculptural yet functional forms that softened and diffused the light. The shades display a geometric patterning of repeated folds, resulting in a three-dimensional surface that enhances both texture and luminosity.

Esben Klint, trained as both architect and designer, played an important role in extending the Klint family’s design legacy while contributing to Le Klint’s reputation as one of Denmark’s leading lighting manufacturers. Le Klint, established in the early 20th century, became internationally recognized for its pleated lampshades, which combined craft traditions with modernist principles. Model 307 represents this union of innovation and tradition, where the brass structure complements the handmade shades to achieve a balanced mid-century aesthetic.

The lamps are in good vintage condition with signs of use and patina, particularly to the brass surfaces, consistent with age. The shades, preserved in their original state, show light wear appropriate to their period. Overall, the pair remains a strong example of Scandinavian mid-century design where form, function, and craftsmanship intersect.
