Information

This is a very rare multifunctional lamp, model B-52, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp is constructed from brass and white acrylic, combining lightweight modern materials with refined metal detailing typical of Scandinavian lighting design from the mid-century period.

The lamp features a sharply angular, tent-like conical shade made of molded white acrylic that diffuses the light evenly with a soft ambient glow. The distinctive form is geometrically dynamic and sculptural, tapering upward to a brass handle-like loop mounted on a slim vertical rod. The brass framework serves both as a visual counterpoint to the matte acrylic and as a structural element allowing the lamp to function either as a freestanding table lamp or as a wall-mounted fixture, where it can be suspended vertically using the integrated ring.

Supported by three small conical brass feet, the lamp stands securely when placed on a surface, and it casts a broad downward and lateral light pattern when illuminated. The lamp emits a warm and diffused illumination, accentuated by the translucency of the white acrylic and the simplicity of its silhouette.

Condition is good vintage with minor signs of wear, including light surface marks and some patina on the brass components, consistent with age and use. The plastic shade retains its original form and luminosity, showing no warping or cracking.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a prolific Swedish lighting designer celebrated for his innovative manipulation of light, shadow, and material. Often working in wood, brass, glass, and plastic, Jakobsson created a wide range of lighting models for both domestic and public interiors. His designs emphasized atmospheric lighting, frequently utilizing diffused or shielded light sources to soften the interior experience. The B-52 is among the rarer examples from his body of work and reflects his explorations into modularity, adaptability, and sculptural form.

The dimensions of the lamp are 18.5 cm in width, 17 cm in depth, and 51 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 7.3 inches wide, 6.7 inches deep, and 20.1 inches high.
