Information

This is a table lamp, model BN-25, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. Characterized by its futuristic silhouette and mastery of light diffusion, the BN-25 exemplifies Jakobsson’s pursuit of soft ambient illumination paired with sculptural clarity.

The lamp is constructed entirely from brushed aluminum, giving it a cool, metallic presence and a subtle satin sheen. Its silhouette features a trumpet-shaped pedestal base that rises into a stacked, louvered lampshade consisting of three concentric bands. This tiered configuration allows light to filter out horizontally in a diffused manner, creating a gentle glow without direct glare. The central opening at the top of the dome further allows upward light emission, enhancing the atmospheric quality of the piece when illuminated.

With its compact proportions and distinctly modernist aesthetic, the BN-25 expresses the postwar Scandinavian design values of functional refinement, material honesty, and elegant simplicity. The precision-machined components and seamless construction reflect the high production standards of Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s workshop, which was known for its exploration of form and lighting effects.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific lighting designers. Though many of his designs are associated with organic shapes and natural materials such as wood and brass, his work with aluminum and other industrial materials reveals a complementary side of his practice—highlighting his interest in contemporary architecture and technological aesthetics. The BN-25 in particular is noted for its clean geometry and subtle interaction with light, making it a favorite among collectors of mid-century Scandinavian lighting.

This lamp remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with age. The aluminum surface retains its original finish with only slight patination, and the lamp is in full working order.
