Hans-Agne Jakobsson table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps, model B-142, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamps feature a distinctive sculptural form with a cylindrical base and a stacked louvered shade made of solid brass. The layered construction of the shade is designed not only for visual impact but also for functionality, diffusing light to create a warm, soft glow while minimizing glare. This approach is characteristic of Jakobsson’s innovative work in lighting design, where form and function seamlessly blend.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a renowned Swedish lighting designer and architect, known for his skillful manipulation of materials like brass, copper, and wood. His designs, deeply influenced by Scandinavian modernism, are celebrated for their ability to create atmospheric and ambient lighting. In 1951, Jakobsson founded his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, which became a significant name in the mid-century lighting industry. His work continues to be admired for its craftsmanship and unique aesthetic.
These lamps remain in their original condition, with a beautifully aged patina on the brass surfaces. Over time, the brass has developed a natural oxidation and wear, which only adds to the vintage appeal of the lamps. The patina and signs of use are consistent with their age, contributing to their authenticity and charm.
The dimensions of the lamps are 17 cm (6.7 inches) in diameter and 33 cm (13 inches) in height, making them an ideal size for side tables or desks. The elegant design and warm light diffusion of these lamps make them not only functional lighting fixtures but also striking decorative pieces that enhance any mid-century modern interior.
