Hans-Agne Jakobsson table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps, model B-221, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, in 1964. Crafted entirely from brass, each lamp features a cylindrical base supporting a perforated dome-shaped shade. The carefully executed perforations allow light to filter through, creating a soft, diffused glow while introducing a decorative interplay of light and shadow.
The brass surfaces have developed a natural patina over time, showing variations in tone and minor oxidation consistent with aged brass. The interior of each lamp bears the original manufacturer’s markings, confirming their authenticity.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a prominent Swedish designer known for his innovative approach to materials and lighting diffusion. His designs often explored the dynamic interaction between light and shadow, particularly through perforated metalwork, as exemplified by these lamps. His company played a key role in shaping Scandinavian lighting design throughout the mid-20th century, producing a wide range of influential lamps.
Each lamp measures approximately 11 cm in diameter and 17 cm in height (4.3 x 6.7 inches).
