Information

This rare pair of table lamps, model B93, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The design reflects the characteristic Scandinavian mid-century modern style, with an emphasis on simplicity, functionality, and elegance. The lamps feature a slender, tapered stem made of brass, rising from a circular brass base. At the top, a spherical matte opaline glass shade provides a soft, diffused light that complements the warm metallic tones of the brass.

The choice of materials highlights Jakobsson’s focus on quality and atmosphere. The brass has aged naturally, developing a subtle patina that enhances the lamps’ vintage character without detracting from their refined appearance. The opaline glass shade diffuses light evenly, creating a gentle illumination well-suited for ambient lighting. The combination of these materials reflects Jakobsson’s ability to balance functional lighting with sculptural form, a hallmark of his work.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a prominent Swedish designer and industrialist known for his pioneering contributions to mid-century lighting design. He established his manufacturing workshop in Markaryd in the early 1950s, where he developed a reputation for innovative lighting solutions that emphasized both aesthetics and practical use. His designs often explored new ways of manipulating light diffusion, contributing significantly to the Scandinavian modern design movement. The B93 model exemplifies his approach to creating atmospheric, understated lighting fixtures that remain relevant in contemporary design contexts.

The lamps are preserved in very good condition, showing only minor signs of age-appropriate wear consistent with their production period. Their compact proportions and warm brass finish make them adaptable to a variety of interior styles, from classic mid-century settings to modern minimalist spaces.
