Information

This rare pair of table lamps, model B-102, was crafted in the 1950s by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB of Markaryd, Sweden. Each lamp stands upon a slender, cylindrical brass column rising from a broad, circular foot. Over decades, the brass has acquired a soft, golden patina with areas of gentle tarnish and faint surface markings that speak to the piece’s vintage provenance while preserving the metal’s inherent warmth.

Atop each column rests a mouth-blown glass shade in a delicate violet hue. The shades flare outward from a narrow neck into a smooth, cylindrical body before transitioning into a rounded dome at their base. Subtle variations in tint and thickness from one shade to the next attest to their artisanal manufacture. When fitted over the bulb housing—encircled by a perforated brass gallery resembling a small crown—the violet glass filters the light into a soft, atmospheric glow that is both intimate and sculptural.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) trained as a cabinetmaker and architect before founding his own lighting workshop in the early 1950s. His table lamps are celebrated for their emphasis on mood and shadow play, achieved through careful pairings of natural materials and colored glass. The B-102 exemplifies this approach, uniting the cool translucence of tinted glass with the warm solidity of brass to create an object that is both functional and decorative.

These examples remain in very good vintage condition. The glass shades show no cracks, chips, or clouding, their surfaces smooth and clear. The brass columns and galleries bear only light oxidation and surface wear, with the original maker’s stamp—“B.102 H.A.J. MARKARYD”—still crisp beneath each base. At a modest 15 cm in diameter and 36 cm in height (approximately 5.9 by 14.2 inches), this pair offers a compact yet striking presence, lending a calm, colored ambience to any interior.
