Hans-Agne Jakobsson wall lamp
This wall lamp was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp is constructed from polished brass with a cylindrical stem and wall mount, and it features a smoked glass shade that encloses a perforated brass inner diffuser. This combination allows the light to be softly filtered, reducing glare and creating a warm, ambient glow that is characteristic of Jakobsson’s designs.
The glass shade has a subtle dome shape with an open top, which allows for both direct and indirect light emission. The perforated brass cylinder inside serves both as a decorative element and a functional diffuser, scattering the light in a gentle pattern. The brass has developed a natural patina, adding depth to the surface, while the glass remains in good condition with only minor signs of use.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most important lighting designers, celebrated for his mastery in creating atmospheric lighting through innovative material use. Founding his own company in Markaryd in 1951, he produced a wide range of lamps that became synonymous with Scandinavian mid-century interiors.
This wall lamp is a representative example of Scandinavian modern lighting, combining simple geometric forms with finely crafted materials to create an object that is both functional and visually refined.
