Information

This wall-mounted light fixture is part of a rare set of three large wall lamps designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson in the 1950s and manufactured by his company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden. The design exemplifies Jakobsson’s mid-century Scandinavian approach to lighting, emphasizing soft light diffusion, sculptural form, and a harmonious balance between ornamentation and function.

The lamp features a cylindrical brass wall mount and arm, which curves in a U-shape toward the bottom, supporting a large, double-cone shaped opaline glass diffuser. The construction combines solid brass with milk-white blown glass, creating a cohesive structure that is both stable and visually refined. Over time, the brass has developed a natural patina, with visible oxidation spots and surface wear, adding to the authenticity and vintage character of the piece.

The glass shade is constructed in two parts, seamlessly joined. The upper portion flares gently outward, forming a chalice-like shape, while the lower portion tapers downward in a smooth conical silhouette. The opaline finish of the glass ensures a soft, diffuse glow, effectively eliminating glare and providing even illumination. This feature makes the lamp ideal for ambient or accent lighting, creating a calming and inviting atmosphere.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson, active through the mid-20th century, was renowned for his ability to shape light to create a specific mood or atmosphere. His designs emphasized comfort, mood, and craftsmanship, earning him recognition as one of Sweden’s most influential lighting designers. Jakobsson’s work contributed significantly to modern Scandinavian interior design and was widely exported, leaving a lasting mark on both residential and commercial lighting.

The lamp measures 14 cm in width, 20 cm in depth, and 40 cm in height (approximately 5.5 inches wide, 7.9 inches deep, and 15.7 inches high). It remains in very good vintage condition, with minor wear to the brass consistent with age and use. The opaline glass is free from damage and continues to provide excellent light diffusion. This fixture is a prime example of Jakobsson’s mastery in creating expressive, functional, and timeless lighting designs.
