Jørgen Kastholm & Preben Fabricius easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs, model Bo-561, was designed by the acclaimed Danish design duo Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius and produced by Bo-Ex in Denmark during the 1960s. Known for their refined approach to modernism, Kastholm and Fabricius combined functionality with minimalism, often using high-quality materials and precise detailing to achieve timeless designs. Their work is celebrated for its architectural clarity and structural honesty, qualities that are clearly reflected in this pair.
The chairs feature a striking combination of polished steel frames and original black leather upholstery. The minimalist silhouette is defined by clean, angular lines and a visually light construction that nonetheless offers excellent stability. The generously cushioned seat and backrest provide exceptional comfort, while the deep seating position and slightly reclined angle embody the relaxed yet sophisticated character of mid-century Scandinavian furniture design. The original leather has developed a rich patina over time, contributing to the authenticity and character of the pieces.
The Bo-561 model is part of a series that also included a matching sofa, demonstrating the designers’ holistic approach to creating cohesive interior environments. These chairs exemplify the duo’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and their pursuit of designs that are both elegant and functional, making them a significant piece of Scandinavian modernist history.
The pair is in good vintage condition, with signs of use and a beautiful patina consistent with age.
