Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model Scimitar, was designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm and produced by Ivan Schlechter in Denmark in 1962. The design is defined by a sculptural steel frame and a minimalist form, embodying the modernist ideals of mid-century Scandinavian design. The brushed stainless steel curved base lends the chairs a distinctive floating appearance, while the angular seat shell enhances both comfort and visual precision.

The original black leather upholstery remains well-preserved, developing a natural patina that reflects the chairs’ age. The seat shell is ergonomically contoured to support the sitter, and the seamless fusion of materials underscores the designers’ commitment to blending form and function.

Fabricius and Kastholm were renowned for their precise design approach, merging industrial materials with organic shapes. Their work drew from Danish craftsmanship and German Bauhaus influences, achieving a balance between technical construction and elegant simplicity. The Scimitar model exemplifies their talent for combining sculptural aesthetics with practical usability.

The chairs are in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor wear consistent with their age on both leather and frame.

Dimensions measure 82 cm in width, 65 cm in depth, 66.5 cm in height, and a seat height of 33 cm (32.3 x 25.6 x 26.2 inches, seat height 13 inches).
