Lyfa ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp was produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1930s and is a distinguished example of early Danish lighting design. The lamp combines robust materiality with a refined decorative structure, bridging the traditional craftsmanship of the early twentieth century with emerging modernist tendencies.
The lamp features a frame crafted from patinated brass, displaying a rich, warm brown tone with a naturally aged surface that adds depth and authenticity to the piece. The structure is composed of a central cylindrical stem leading to a five-armed horizontal arrangement, each arm elegantly curved at the end and accented with small spherical finials. The construction emphasizes symmetry, balance, and subtle ornamentation.
Each of the five arms supports a cluster of yellow-painted opal glass shades, designed in a tiered format with two layered discs above a deeper bowl-shaped diffuser. The shades possess a warm yellow tone with a semi-opaque quality that diffuses the light evenly, producing a soft and atmospheric glow when illuminated.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with some minor surface wear and a charming patina to the brass consistent with its age. The opal glass shades show slight signs of historical use, including minor paint loss in places, but retain their functional and aesthetic integrity.
Lyfa was one of Denmark’s leading lighting manufacturers, particularly active from the 1930s through the 1960s. The company was known for producing high-quality, innovative designs that helped define the Scandinavian lighting aesthetic, often collaborating with leading designers to create pieces that balanced form, function, and material excellence.
The dimensions are 75 cm in height (approximately 29.5 inches) and 62 cm in diameter (approximately 24.4 inches).
