Hans Bergström ceiling lamp

Information

This rare and generously scaled ceiling lamp was designed by Hans Bergström and produced by ASEA in Sweden during the 1950s. The model exemplifies Swedish modern lighting of the postwar period, where functional clarity is combined with refined material quality and a calm, architectural expression.

The construction is executed in brass with a warm, natural patina, supporting multiple arms arranged in a balanced radial composition. Each arm carries an opaline glass shade with a softly rounded profile. The opaline glass diffuses the light evenly, creating a warm and atmospheric illumination while avoiding glare. The contrast between the matte white glass and the golden brass structure gives the lamp a distinctly elegant yet restrained presence.

The overall design is both sculptural and highly functional, intended to provide ample ambient light while remaining visually light despite its large scale. This type of ceiling lamp was often used in representative interiors such as dining rooms, living rooms, or public spaces, and it reflects Bergström’s mastery in combining technical precision with refined proportions.

The lamp is in excellent vintage condition, with only small signs of usage consistent with age. The brass retains its original surface character, and the glass shades are well preserved. Diameter 85 cm (33.5 inches), height 38 cm (15 inches).
