Information

This rare ceiling lamp, model 9068, was designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Idman in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp features a square-shaped white lacquered metal shade with a perforated surface, allowing for a subtle diffusion of light. The perforations in the shade create a soft, ambient glow, enhancing the atmosphere of any room while minimizing glare.

The lower part of the lamp incorporates a brass grid structure, which not only directs and softens the light but also adds a refined architectural quality to the design. The cylindrical brass mounting section provides a striking contrast to the white metal body, further enhancing the visual appeal of the lamp.

Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was a renowned Finnish industrial designer and lighting specialist, celebrated for his innovative use of materials like perforated metal and brass. His work blended functionalist principles with decorative elegance, making his designs highly sought after. Tynell’s collaboration with Idman, one of Finland’s leading lighting manufacturers, resulted in some of the most iconic Scandinavian modern lighting designs.

Idman was an influential Finnish lighting manufacturer known for producing high-quality, innovative fixtures during the mid-20th century, often in collaboration with prominent designers like Tynell.

This lamp remains in good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear consistent with age, including a natural patina on the brass elements. The dimensions of the lamp are 40 cm (15.7 inches) in width, 40 cm (15.7 inches) in depth, and 25 cm (9.8 inches) in height, making it an ideal size for a variety of interior settings, adding both style and functionality.
