Paavo Tynell ceiling lamp
This rare flush mount ceiling lamp, model 2098R, was designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Idman in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp features a large, shallow glass diffuser with a frosted white finish, which provides soft and evenly distributed illumination. Central to the design is a sculptural brass ornament made of interwoven wire loops, serving both as a decorative focal point and a functional element securing the shade to the fixture.
Paavo Tynell was a pioneering Finnish lighting designer renowned for his delicate craftsmanship and elegant use of materials such as brass and glass. His work seamlessly combined functionalism with decorative sophistication, resulting in lighting fixtures that are both practical and sculptural. His collaboration with Idman produced numerous iconic designs that continue to be highly valued in Scandinavian mid-century lighting.
The lamp is preserved in its original condition, featuring a naturally aged patina on the brass components that enhances its authenticity. The glass diffuser remains well-preserved, maintaining its soft translucency to deliver warm and diffused light.
The lamp measures 60 cm (23.6 inches) in diameter and 25 cm (9.8 inches) in height.
