Paavo Tynell ceiling lamp
A rare ceiling lamp / flush mount designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Idman in Finland during the 1940s. This striking model 20428 combines Tynell’s refined, architectural approach with a warm material palette, resulting in a piece that feels both sculptural and highly functional.
The lamp is constructed in brass with a frosted glass diffuser, framed by a distinctive wooden shade structure that gives the design its character and softens the overall expression. The square form with gently rounded corners creates a balanced, modern silhouette, while the layered construction allows the light to spread evenly and comfortably across the ceiling and surrounding space.
When lit, the lamp produces a warm and atmospheric glow, with the frosted glass providing a smooth diffusion and the outer shade contributing depth and texture to the lighting effect. It works beautifully as a central ceiling fixture in smaller rooms, hallways, or bedrooms, and also functions well as a low-profile statement piece in more curated interiors.
Measurements are 42,5 x 42,5 x 18,5 cm (16.7 x 16.7 x 7.3 in).
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage consistent with age, adding to its authentic presence and patina.
