Information

This is a rare easy chair designed by Brazilian architect and furniture designer Percival Lafer and produced by Lafer MP in Brazil during the 1960s. The chair is constructed from a combination of solid rosewood and high-quality brown leather upholstery. The rosewood frame, characterized by its deep tone and pronounced grain, provides both architectural support and an aesthetic counterpoint to the generous leather cushions. The leather is richly patinated, showing signs of careful use that add character and depth to its surface.

The chair features an ergonomic profile with a deep seat and high backrest, including a cylindrical headrest pillow mounted on a metal frame for added comfort. The cushioning is deeply tufted, enhancing its softness and creating a sculptural texture across the seat and back. The arms are wide and gently sloped, contributing to a relaxed seating posture. The visible joinery, leather suspension supports, and metal fittings highlight the technical construction and structural sophistication.

Percival Lafer is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of modern Brazilian furniture design. His works from the mid-century period exemplify the integration of industrial techniques with traditional materials and craftsmanship. Lafer was particularly known for his innovative approach to comfort and his use of pre-assembled modular components that allowed for broad commercial distribution without sacrificing design quality. The Lafer MP line represents a series of premium lounge furniture that became internationally sought after for its comfort, durability, and bold modernist aesthetic.

The matching three-seat and two-seat sofas from the same series are also available, forming a complete modular seating ensemble in the Brazilian modernist tradition.

This easy chair is in good vintage condition, with visible signs of usage and patina consistent with age. The leather remains supple with minor creases, and the rosewood frame is structurally sound with a rich, polished finish.

The dimensions of the chair are 90 cm wide, 100 cm deep, and 85 cm high, with a seat height of 38 cm. In imperial units, this corresponds to approximately 35.4 inches in width, 39.4 inches in depth, 33.5 inches in height, and a seat height of 15 inches.
