Rudolf Horn easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs was designed by Rudolf Horn and produced by Rölf in Germany in 1966. Exemplifying the refined aesthetic of German mid-century modernism, the chairs combine functional clarity with a striking sculptural presence. Their low, streamlined silhouette and cantilevered form express a sense of lightness while providing excellent comfort and support, making them equally suited for residential and public interiors.
The chairs feature a chromed steel frame with a distinctive crossed leg structure, a hallmark of 1960s European design that prioritised both strength and visual elegance. The seats and backs are upholstered in the original black leather, arranged in a grid of deep, hand-tufted squares that create both visual rhythm and a soft, inviting surface. The combination of polished steel and supple leather captures the modernist ambition to balance industrial materials with luxurious tactile qualities.
Rudolf Horn was one of the leading figures in German post-war furniture design, known for his minimalist yet expressive pieces that bridged Bauhaus functionalism with a more humanistic approach to modern living. These chairs are representative of his design philosophy, focusing on simplicity, material honesty, and timeless form.
The pair remains in good original condition with a beautiful patina consistent with age and use.
