Sigfrid Omann stool
This rare Danish stool was designed by Sigfrid Omann and produced by Ølholm Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. The frame is constructed from solid oak, displaying warm golden-brown tones and a pronounced grain structure that emphasizes the natural qualities of the wood. The seat consists of hand-woven cane in a tight basket-weave pattern, offering both flexibility and strength. Its gently curved profile enhances comfort while visually softening the overall form.
The stool exhibits clean lines and refined structural clarity characteristic of Scandinavian modernism. The legs are subtly tapered and rounded, joined to the frame with precise craftsmanship. The harmonious contrast between the sculptural wooden frame and the tactile woven seat reflects the Danish mid-century focus on material integrity and artisanal skill.
Sigfrid Omann, active during the mid-20th century, is recognized for his functional and elegant wood furniture designs, often utilizing oak or teak. His partnership with Ølholm Møbelfabrik, a smaller Danish manufacturer, produced finely crafted pieces that balance utility with aesthetic detail, though such works are relatively rare today.
This stool is in very good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age. The cane seat remains taut and intact, while the oak frame shows light wear with a uniform, pleasing patina.
The dimensions are 54.5 centimeters wide, 36.5 centimeters deep, and 43 centimeters high, with a seat height of 40 centimeters (approximately 21.5 by 14.4 by 16.9 inches, seat height 15.7 inches).
