Information

Kaare Klint Propeller stool, model no. 8783, designed in 1930 and produced by Rud Rasmussen in Denmark. Although conceived in the early 20th century, the stool was first brought into production in 1962 and introduced to the public at the Copenhagen Cabinet-makers’ Guild Exhibition of the same year. It embodies Klint’s principle of functionalism and meticulous attention to construction and proportion, which has profoundly influenced Danish modern design.

The stool features a folding X-shaped base crafted from solid oak with a rich, warm tone and a visible straight grain pattern. The sculptural legs are elegantly rounded, showcasing refined joinery and a precise understanding of form and function. The folding mechanism is engineered with great precision, allowing the piece to collapse flat when not in use, a hallmark of Klint’s versatile and practical approach to furniture.

The seat consists of a thick saddle leather panel in a natural tan color, which is beautifully aged with a warm patina and subtle variations in tone. The leather displays signs of usage, with visible darkening and wear, lending the piece authenticity and character. The seat is supported between the cross-stretcher elements, providing a flexible and comfortable seating surface. Above this structure sits a removable solid oak tray top, which can transform the stool into a functional side table. The tray features softly raised edges and finger-jointed corners, adding both utility and aesthetic interest.

Kaare Klint, regarded as the father of modern Danish furniture design, was known for blending classic forms with modernist clarity. The Propeller stool exemplifies his philosophy, combining portability with timeless elegance and fine craftsmanship. Rud Rasmussen, a renowned Danish cabinetmaker, produced many of Klint’s designs with uncompromising attention to detail and material quality.

The stool measures 68.5 cm in length, 50 cm in depth, and 42.5 cm in height, with a seat height of 38 cm. In inches, these dimensions are approximately 27 inches long, 19.7 inches deep, 16.7 inches high, and the seat height is about 15 inches. The piece is in excellent condition, showing signs of gentle usage and a fine, even patina on both the wood and leather surfaces.
