Information

This pair of bedside or side tables, model Dixi, was designed by Gunnar Myrstrand and Sven Engström in the 1950s and produced by Tingströms in Sweden. They represent a refined example of mid-century Scandinavian functional design, where simplicity, utility, and craftsmanship are seamlessly combined.

The tables are constructed in teak, a favored material of the period known for its durability and warm, reddish-brown tone. The clean-lined form emphasizes function and proportion, with square legs and an upper drawer complemented by an open shelf beneath. The drawer features a small metal key and lock, highlighting the traditional cabinetmaking details that distinguish the piece. The construction demonstrates careful attention to joinery, seen in the precise mitred edges and smoothly finished surfaces.

The design embodies the Scandinavian modernist ideal of combining minimal form with practical utility. The integrated storage makes them equally suited as nightstands or side tables, while their modest size allows them to adapt to various settings. The architectural clarity of the design, with its balance between solid presence and open shelf space, reflects the Swedish design ethos of the mid-20th century.

Both tables are in excellent vintage condition, fully restored with only minor signs of use that remain consistent with their age. Their restrained elegance and versatile proportions make them enduring examples of functional Scandinavian modern furniture.

Dimensions: 41 cm wide, 54 cm deep, and 54 cm high (approximately 16.1 x 21.3 x 21.3 inches).
