Sven Engström & Gunnar Myrstrand bedside tables

This pair of bedside tables, model Casino, was designed by Sven Engström and Gunnar Myrstrand and produced by Tingströms in Sweden during the 1960s. The design exemplifies the Scandinavian mid-century approach to functionality and form, combining refined joinery, balanced proportions, and high-quality materials. The model was part of Tingströms’ well-crafted domestic furniture line, characterized by its understated elegance and precise craftsmanship.

Each table is constructed in teak with a warm, even tone and a softly glowing grain pattern. The composition features a single drawer with circular wooden knobs and an open storage compartment below, providing both practical use and visual rhythm. The drawer fronts align seamlessly with the structure, maintaining a minimal and cohesive expression. The tables rest on a solid teak base with square legs connected by cross stretchers, giving stability and a distinct architectural clarity.

The tables have been fully restored and are in excellent vintage condition, showing only minor traces of use consistent with their age. The surfaces display a rich and consistent patina, emphasizing the quality of the teak veneer and the craftsmanship of the joinery.

Sven Engström (1914–1981) and Gunnar Myrstrand (1921–1997) were leading figures in Swedish furniture design during the mid-20th century, known for their collaboration with manufacturers such as Tingströms and Bodafors. Their work reflects the rational yet human-centered ideals of Scandinavian modernism, with a focus on material honesty, functional simplicity, and visual harmony.
