Sylvia Stave jar
This pewter jar was designed by Sylvia Stave and produced by C.G. Hallberg in Sweden in 1929, representing an early example of modernist Scandinavian metalwork. The cylindrical body is decorated with finely incised horizontal lines, providing a subtle decorative effect that enhances its minimalist form. The lid is topped with a sculptural handle shaped as a stylized horse, introducing a whimsical contrast to the otherwise restrained geometric design.
Sylvia Stave was a pioneering Swedish designer renowned for her innovative pewter work, characterized by clean lines and functional yet artistic forms. She collaborated extensively with C.G. Hallberg, one of Sweden’s leading metal manufacturers. Her designs often reflect the transition from Art Deco to early modernism, and her pieces remain highly collectible for their timeless aesthetics and exceptional craftsmanship.
The pewter surface has developed a patina over time, showing minor wear consistent with age. The sculptural detail on the lid remains well-defined, and the overall structure is intact, preserving the integrity of the original design.
The jar measures 9 centimeters in diameter and 11 centimeters in height (3.5 x 4.3 inches).
