Lisa Johansson-Pape ceiling lamp
This very rare ceiling lamp, model 61-118, was designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Orno in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp combines brass and frosted glass in a refined, sculptural composition that reflects Johansson-Pape’s characteristic balance between function and decoration.
The upper section is formed from polished brass with a shallow, domed profile, complemented by a frosted glass diffuser that softens and disperses the light evenly. Around the central stem, a delicate brass wire crown introduces a rhythmic, ornamental element that breaks the otherwise streamlined geometry. The fixture emits both direct and reflected light, producing a warm, atmospheric glow typical of Johansson-Pape’s lighting designs.
Lisa Johansson-Pape (1907–1989) was one of Finland’s leading lighting designers and a central figure in the country’s postwar design movement. Her work often emphasized the relationship between light, material, and space, and she collaborated extensively with Orno, one of Finland’s foremost lighting manufacturers. Her designs were included in exhibitions such as the Milan Triennale and have become synonymous with the Finnish modernist aesthetic, combining simplicity, technical precision, and poetic expression.
This example remains in excellent vintage condition, showing small signs of use and a consistent patina to the brass. The frosted glass is intact, with a clean surface and even translucency.
Dimensions: diameter 60 cm (23.6 in), height 140 cm (55.1 in).
