Information

Ceiling lamp model no. 90, also known as the “Beehive” was designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden during the 1940s. This early and rare example is crafted entirely from patinated brass and is distinguished by its floral, sculptural arrangement of twenty-four lights set in two concentric tiers. Each light holder is shaped like a stylized flower bud with serrated, crown-like edges, creating a botanical silhouette that evokes the imagery of beehives and blooming flowers.

The lamp’s structure features gently curved arms radiating from a central sphere, each ending in a deep, flared brass socket. Suspended from a long brass rod with a rounded ceiling canopy, the lamp casts a warm, ambient glow when illuminated. Light filters softly through the petal-shaped cutouts, producing radial patterns that enhance the decorative effect. The meticulous craftsmanship evident in the formed and assembled components reflects the high standards typical of early Ateljé Lyktan production.

Hans Bergström (1910–1996), co-founder of Ateljé Lyktan, was a key figure in Swedish lighting design. His 1940s work often blended floral and organic motifs with modernist structural principles. Model 90 embodies this transitional phase in Scandinavian lighting, merging decorative form with functional design. The all-brass construction and intricate floral detailing make this lamp one of Bergström’s most sculptural and collectible early pieces.

The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing surface patina and oxidation throughout the brass consistent with its age. The finish remains unrestored to preserve its original character and historical integrity. The wiring has been inspected, and the fixture is fully operational.

Dimensions measure 71 cm in diameter and 85 cm in height (approximately 27.9 by 33.5 inches).
