Fog & Mørup ceiling lamp
The Tulip ceiling lamp, produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark, is a rare example of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design characterized by organic form and refined materiality. The fixture features multiple elegantly curved brass arms radiating from a central hub, each terminating in a tulip-shaped socket that supports a frosted opaline glass shade. This floral-inspired arrangement achieves a sculptural presence, balancing symmetry with gentle asymmetry in the natural sweep of the arms.
The use of solid brass, now showing a rich, aged patina, underscores the lamp’s material quality and lends warmth to its overall appearance. The opaline glass shades, shaped to resemble blooming tulip petals, are finely proportioned and evenly frosted to diffuse light in a soft, ambient manner. This diffusion effect contributes to a balanced illumination, well-suited to both domestic and formal settings.
Fog & Mørup, active throughout the 20th century, was known for its collaborations with leading Danish designers and its commitment to producing technically and aesthetically advanced lighting. Although the designer of the Tulip model remains unidentified, the craftsmanship and formal language align with the studio’s high production standards during the 1950s and 1960s.
This example remains in good vintage condition, with well-preserved glass and a structurally sound brass framework. Minor surface wear on the brass components is consistent with age and contributes to its authentic patina. All components are original, and the lamp is in full working order, preserving the integrity and historical value of this decorative and functional piece.
