Erik Buck dining chairs
This is a rare set of six dining chairs, model OD-49, designed by Danish designer Erik Buck and produced by Oddense Maskinsnedkeri A/S in Denmark during the 1960s. The chairs are constructed from solid rosewood, showcasing a rich reddish-brown hue with well-defined grain patterns, and are upholstered in their original teal textured fabric. The fabric displays a subtle lustre and is gently worn, exhibiting minor signs of use consistent with age while retaining structural and visual integrity.
Each chair features a slightly concave backrest and a softly contoured seat, contributing to ergonomic support and comfort. The sculptural frame is characterized by flowing, organic lines, including curved back legs and gently tapering front legs, joined with precision-cut transitions. The backrest is elevated and slightly angled, supported by two rounded vertical uprights that integrate seamlessly into the rear legs. The chair construction emphasizes clarity of form and fine detailing, with rounded joints and carefully modeled surfaces.
Erik Buck, active during the height of Danish modernism, was known for his refined dining and bar seating designs that blend comfort with clean aesthetics. His work often features sculpted wood forms and harmonious proportions. The OD-49 model is one of his most recognizable and successful dining chair designs and was produced by Oddense Maskinsnedkeri, a Danish manufacturer known for its quality craftsmanship and collaborations with modern designers.
Each chair measures 51 cm in width, 52 cm in depth, and 80 cm in height, with a seat height of 44 cm. In imperial units, the dimensions correspond to approximately 20.1 inches wide, 20.5 inches deep, 31.5 inches high, and a seat height of 17.3 inches.
