Information

This rare set of eight dining chairs, model Captain, was designed by Erik Buck and produced by Ørum Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1960s. The model is a refined example of Buck’s approach to Danish modern design, balancing sculptural form, comfort, and craftsmanship.

Each chair is constructed in solid teak with a warm, even grain that highlights the organic structure of the frame. The design is characterized by a softly curved backrest and gently tapered legs connected by sculpted stretchers, reflecting Buck’s architectural precision and understanding of ergonomics. The back and seat are upholstered in black vinyl, providing a subtle contrast to the rich wood tones while ensuring durability and ease of maintenance.

The Captain chair embodies the mid-century Scandinavian ideal of harmony between material, form, and function. Its proportions and structural clarity reveal the influence of both traditional Danish cabinetmaking and the modernist aesthetic of the postwar period.

The set remains in excellent vintage condition, showing only small signs of usage consistent with age. The teak surfaces display a well-preserved patina, and the upholstery retains its smooth texture and original character.

Dimensions: 49 × 53 × 79 cm (19.3 × 20.9 × 31.1 inches), seat height 45 cm (17.7 inches).
