Information

This is a rare and complete set of eighteen dining chairs designed by Erik Buck and produced by Vamo Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1957. These chairs are a quintessential example of Scandinavian mid-century craftsmanship, combining sculptural woodwork with modernist efficiency in a design that remains elegant yet restrained.

Each chair features a teak frame with gently tapering legs and subtly curved edges. The backrest is a wide, organically shaped panel in solid teak, curved to cradle the back for ergonomic support. The top rail is sculpted with a soft arc, while the rear legs are extended upward in a continuous gesture to support the backrest. The visible grain of the teak offers tonal variation and rich surface depth, emphasized by a warm oiled finish. The seats are newly reupholstered in Kvadrat™ wool fabric in a vibrant mustard yellow tone, introducing a sharp chromatic contrast to the darker teak structure. The upholstery is precision-fitted, echoing the modernist emphasis on clean lines and functionally derived forms. The underlying seat construction incorporates oak framing for added durability and structural integrity, distinguishing the mixed-species construction often found in high-quality Danish furniture of the period.

The chairs are in excellent condition, with all joints secure and upholstery fresh. The wood surfaces have been carefully preserved, showing minor wear consistent with age but no restoration that compromises the original material or design intent. The chairs are marked with the branded Vamo Møbelfabrik stamp on the underside, confirming origin and authenticity.

Erik Buck was a Danish designer whose work is characterized by smooth contours, ergonomic forms, and precise woodworking. He frequently collaborated with Vamo Møbelfabrik, a respected Danish manufacturer known for producing finely crafted seating and cabinetry throughout the 1950s and 60s. Buck’s chairs, especially in large matching sets, are particularly sought after for their understated elegance and comfort.

The dimensions for each chair are 49 cm wide, 49 cm deep, and 77 cm high, with a seat height of 45 cm. In imperial units, this equates approximately to 19.3 inches in width, 19.3 inches in depth, 30.3 inches in height, and a seat height of 17.7 inches.
