Hans Bergström ceiling lamp
This very rare ceiling lamp, model no. 95, was designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1940s. The lamp features a central vertical brass rod supporting a broad, shallow brass reflector disc. Suspended beneath this disc are three arms, each ending with downward-facing light sources housed within softly curved opaline glass diffusers. The glass shades are set into scalloped brass holders, reflecting the early Scandinavian modernism style that blended ornamental detail with emerging functionalist tendencies.
Crafted from solid brass and hand-blown opaline glass, the fixture displays warm golden and white tones when unlit and diffuses a gentle, even light when illuminated. The brass reflector serves as both a visual anchor and functional element, directing light downward and concealing the fixture’s central connections. Decorative brass wire detailing adorns the upper section where the reflector meets the rod, adding subtle ornamentation.
Hans Bergström was a pioneering Swedish lighting designer and co-founder of Ateljé Lyktan in 1934. His early designs skillfully combined classical aesthetics with material innovation, marking an important phase in Swedish lighting history. Ateljé Lyktan became a leading producer of modern lighting throughout the 20th century.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing age-appropriate patina on the brass and minor variations typical of hand-blown glass.
